Science Intent Statement
At Woodlands we strive to ensure learners develop their sense of awe and wonder about the world; to stimulate and excite pupils’ curiosity about the phenomena and events in the world around them and to satisfy this curiosity with knowledge. This will enable them to develop their roles in the community and be responsible global citizens. We believe that all science lessons are inclusive and cross-curricular where possible and give learners opportunities to develop their confidence and passion for purposeful, contextualised, investigative learning.
Through the high quality science curriculum, children learn to:
• Have a passion to carry out investigative learning with confidence and
develop their resilience to learn from their successes and failures.
• Develop the ability to work both independently, and in collaboration with
others, improving their ability to communicate effectively with those
around them.
• Take and manage risks in a safe, developing their problem solving skills
and encouraging them to ask questions about the world around them.
• Challenge and question key concepts in science and relate this to the
world around them.
• Have high aspirations for themselves by learning about other successful
scientists which inspire them to question and challenge their own ideas
and become critical thinkers.
• Challenge all stereotypes so learners have high expectations of
themselves and believe they can achieve their goals.
• Use the skills and knowledge they have acquired at Woodlands to inform
and influence them in their everyday life supporting their development in
becoming responsible members of the community.
